Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson Sponsors Soldiers’ Angels Food Distribution for Veterans in Need
Meals to be provided through partnership with Atlanta Food Bank and Soldiers’ Angels
DECATUR, Ga. – DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson in partnership with Soldiers’ Angels and Atlanta Food Bank is hosting a mobile food distribution event to provide food assistance to 200 at-risk and homeless veterans and their families.
The distribution will take place Friday, June 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Atlanta VA Arcadia Clinic, 250 North Arcadia Avenue, Decatur, Ga. 30030, and will be one of three events scheduled for June, August and December to benefit veterans impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Funding for the meals was made available by Commissioner Cochran-Johnson through a donation to the Atlanta Food Bank from her District 7 discretionary funds and is a continuation of her 2020 support of Soldiers’ Angeles in which she sponsored two food distributions that resulted in feeding over 600 veterans and their families.
“It is indeed an honor to partner again with Soldiers’ Angels to provide food boxes designed to deliver quality food to our veterans and military families,” said Commissioner Cochran-Johnson. “As your commissioner and a citizen concerned with my community, I am dedicated to ensuring our veterans and their families have the resources they need, because they have given unselfishly of themselves to ensure our freedom and liberties.”
Soldiers’ Angels is a not-for-profit organization that supports military families, deployed service members, wounded heroes, and veterans of all eras with aid, comfort, programs and resources.
“In 2020, we supported more than 767,245 service members, veterans and their families across the country,” said John Harris, Soldiers’ Angels Atlanta area manager. “It is through generous donations and partnerships like these that we are able to continue our efforts year-round.”
Veterans interested in being added to the distribution list to receive notifications about future distributions and how to register should visit www.soldiersangels.org/atlanta.
“Our veterans have placed themselves on the frontline of service to our country,” said Commissioner Cochran-Johnson. “It is important we provide the assistance they need as many face economic hardship as a result of COVID-19.”
