John Hope Bryant and Operation HOPE Are Presented With a Proclamation by the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. – On Tuesday, March 12, 2019, Operation HOPE was presented with a proclamation at the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners meeting for their dedication, commitment, and service to residents with low and moderate-incomes.
Since 1992, Operation HOPE has been moving America from civil rights to “silver rights” with the mission of making free enterprise and capitalism work for the underserved. Through their various programs including HOPE Inside, an award-winning model of community upliftment, they have serviced adults, youth, disaster survivors, and employees with financial dignity at no cost to the client.
John Hope Bryant, founder, chairman and CEO of Operation HOPE, was present to accept the proclamation and Dr. Anita Ward, president of Operation HOPE, was also in attendance to receive a token of gratitude for her readiness to partner with Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson on providing this service to DeKalb residents.
“I felt it important to recognize Operation HOPE because of their tireless commitment to building financial wealth and prosperity in disadvantaged communities,” said Commissioner Cochran-Johnson. “They have pledged to advance their outreach in DeKalb County which means more of our residents will be given the opportunity to gain the financial knowledge and tools they need to create secure a future.”
Operation HOPE and The Promise Homes Company, a single-family residential rental company, have purchased and revitalized 380 homes in DeKalb County totaling over $20 million, making Bryant the largest landlord in DeKalb County.
During his remarks Bryant expressed his appreciate for the recognition. “This is the first time in history that both of my entities have been acknowledged in the same experience,” said Bryant. “I’ve been [serving the community] twenty-seven years. Never has my for-profit [and] my nonprofit both had a role to play separately in the same domicile. So I’m honored by that.”
Bryant also announced that Operation HOPE’s partner, RBC Bank, will open a HOPE Inside program within DeKalb County. With it will come credit and money management, homeownership, small business development, youth financial literacy and entrepreneurship, as well as several other initiatives to directly benefit the resident of DeKalb County.
