Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson and Stonecrest Citizens’ Coalition to Host Town Hall Meeting
DECATUR, Ga. – Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson and the Stonecrest Citizens’ Coalition will hold a District 7 Town Hall to share relevant information on community issues and address concerns within the district.
The meeting will be held Thursday, April 25, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lou Walker Senior Center, 2538 Panola Rd., Lithonia, GA 30058.
“I am excited to host my first major town hall meeting,” said Commissioner Cochran-Johnson. “I have participated in several smaller conversations, but this event will help me provide information and bridge the gap between questions and answers for my constituents.”
The District 7 town hall will feature representatives from MARTA and various DeKalb County departments including Code Enforcement, Parks and Recreation, Sanitation, Watershed Management, Public Safety and Roads and Drainage.
“Being on the front line as well as a member of the community, I firmly understand our challenges and resources,” said Commissioner Cochran-Johnson. “It is important the right people have a seat at the table, so questions can be answered. It is important the community is aware of efforts, policies, and actions across the board that affect them.”
The Stonecrest Citizens’ Coalition Inc. strives to educate and engage citizens, influence public policy and advocate for good government.
“We believe lucidity, efficiency, ethics and accountability lead to good government and a great community,” said Donna Priest-Brown, an organizer for the coalition. “We were happy to partner with Commissioner Cochran-Johnson to assist in mobilizing our community for a town hall.”
The town hall concept is an informal public meeting around shared subjects of interest. For many years, town hall meetings have been an important tool for informing citizens about emerging issues, gauging where a community stands on certain subjects, and serves as a place to identify and implement solutions to a problem.
