DeKalb Voters Head to Polls in Record Numbers in General Election Runoff for Georgia Senate Seat
DeKalb Voter Registration and Elections sees highest advance voting turnout of the year on Sunday, Nov. 27
DECATUR, Ga.– Voters in DeKalb County turned out in record numbers with nearly 33,000 total ballots cast on the initial days of early voting, including Wednesday, Nov. 23, Saturday, Nov. 26 and Sunday, Nov. 27.
More than 21,000 voters cast ballots on Sunday, making it the largest early voting turnout in 2022.
“The team at DeKalb Voter Registration and Elections (DeKalb VRE) has worked tirelessly to ensure all voters have ample opportunity and access to vote and the turnout is an incredible reflection of their efforts,” said Dele Lowman Smith, board chair for DeKalb County Board of Registration and Elections. “The turnaround between the General Election and runoff is very quick as a result of SB202, and this year we had the added challenge of Saturday voting. The Georgia Supreme Court ruling to allow Saturday voting enabled thousands of voters to take advantage of early voting in DeKalb County.”
Advance voting for the Dec. 6, 2022, runoff continues this week, concluding on Friday.
For a list of locations, including those with drop boxes, visit www.DeKalbVotes.com.
Also, voters who wish to vote absentee have until 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 28 to request their ballot. Completed absentee ballots should be returned by drop box or hand-delivered to the DeKalb VRE office location at 4380 Memorial Drive, #300 in Decatur by 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
Voters who are aged 75 or older or individuals who have a disability do not have to wait in line and can instead move to the front of the line by alerting the poll manager.

“We love to see this kind of turnout and are anticipating a busy week of early voting across the County,” said Keisha Smith, executive director of DeKalb VRE. “As a reminder, voters can cast ballots at any DeKalb early voting location this week but must vote at their assigned precinct on December 6. I couldn’t be more impressed with our staff and poll workers who have worked across the holiday weekend to ensure DeKalb County was prepared for a huge turnout at the launch of early voting.”
