DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A driver is in critical condition after crashing into the back of a school bus Thursday morning in DeKalb County.
DeKalb Fire officials also said the bus driver and two children were taken to Grady as a safety measure; they were not reported to have any serious injuries.
DeKalb Schools said in a statement that one of the students attends Peachcrest Elementary and the other attends Bethune Elementary, and that their families had been notified about the incident.
It happened on Georgia Route 12 and Covington Highway past Glenwood Road. DeKalb Police said the school bus was stopped with its lights flashing when the crash occurred.
11Alive SkyTracker flew over the scene, showing a car had rammed into the back of a DeKalb County school bus.
According to DeKalb Fire officials, the car rear ended the bus and the driver was trapped and had to be freed. The driver was taken to Grady in critical condition.
DeKalb Schools said in a statement:
This morning, at around 6:30 a.m., a DeKalb County School District bus carrying two students was involved in an accident with another vehicle at Covington Highway and Lamar Street. One of the students is from Peachcrest Elementary School, and the other attends Bethune Elementary School.
There are no reports of any serious injuries to anyone on the bus. However, as a precautionary measure, the driver and students were taken to a nearby medical facility for evaluation. The families of the students and the bus driver have been notified about the incident.
