  • NEWSLETTER: May 29th DeKalb County District 7 Weekly Highlights

Dear District 7 Constituents, Family, and Friends,

This week has been filled with productivity in District 7. I’d like to give a huge thanks to Wendell Brown and his team at Snapfinger Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility for their hospitality during my tour of the $300 Million facility. I am proud of the vision and excited about the state-of-the-art facility, which will be the second largest in the United States upon completion. I am finding that DeKalb needs to do a better job of communicating our progress, while acknowledging our errors and omissions and correcting them. As many of you know our sanitary overflow spills are often reported by media outlets. Last year over 200,000 gallons of sewer leaks occurred. Once the new facility is complete we will increase our sewer storage capacity by 30 million gallons. What does that mean to DeKalb? When Snapfinger is complete in December 2022 we will have the capacity needed to not only sustain and eradicate sewer overflow, but to grow into the future as population expands. I look forward to the future of DeKalb – it is bright. We are addressing the issues today that will result in our ability to facilitate growth and create the communities we deserve tomorrow. I appreciate a seat at the table and the ability to see a New DeKalb emerge.

I’d also like to thank over 600 DeKalb residents who joined us via Zoom or Online across social platforms last week to have a conversation geared towards renters and homeowners to provide assistance and information on how to survive COVID-19. As always, I am here to serve and assist, feel free to contact me if you should have a need. May God bless each of you.

Your Commissioner,
Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, M.P.A.
Super District 7, DeKalb County
