A Decatur nonprofit isn’t letting the coronavirus pandemic stop its annual 5K event, which raises money for student athletes.

The 17th annual Run With The Dogs 5K will take place virtually over the final nine days of January. The Decatur Bulldog Boosters hosts the event, which supports the athletic programs at Decatur High School and Renfroe Middle School.

The funds are used to purchase uniforms and equipment for the 685 student athletes that play on 25 teams across both schools. The athletic programs are primarily supported by ticket sales and the Decatur Bulldog Boosters, according to a news release.

Those participating in the virtual 5K can run their course anytime between Jan. 23 and Jan. 31. Any route is valid, but the organization does have a few suggested routes on its website. Participants can report their time through Chronotrack.

Visit rwtd5k.com to register by Jan. 24. Anyone who registers before Jan. 11 can pick up their T-shirt early and will be entered in a drawing for prizes donated by Decatur businesses. Registration costs $30 per person, but Decatur students, teachers and employees get a $5 discount.
