A DeKalb County multi-use trail is set to expand into Chamblee after county leaders approved 6.5 miles of new paths.

The Peachtree Creek Greenway, which is currently a mile-long path in Brookhaven, will extend from Clairmont Road through Spaghetti Junction to Silverbacks Stadium, according to a concept plan approved by the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners earlier in April. The plan also includes spur connections to nearby neighborhoods, parks and commercial areas.

A three-mile section is underway in Brookhaven, and supporters envision the path eventually spanning 12 miles, connecting the Atlanta Beltline to I-285.

In a Facebook post, Commissioner Ted Terry said he’s, “proud to support the expansion of multi-use biking and talking trials” across DeKalb. The North Fork Peachtree Creek Comprehensive Concept Plan vote, which took place April 13, was unanimous.

The PATH Foundation, an organization that oversees multi-use trail implementations in Georgia, will receive $76,600 to make the expansion. A public meeting will take place at a later date regarding the path expansion.

Peachtree Creek Greenway is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and has three trailheads. More information is available at peachtreecreek.org.
