Clarkston, GA — People interested in running for local offices in our community will be required to qualify beginning on Monday, Aug. 16.

The election will be Nov. 2. Early voting will begin on Oct. 12. The voter registration deadline for the upcoming city elections is Oct. 4. To register to vote, click here.

Here is the qualifying information for the city of Clarkston:
There are no council districts in Clarkston. All representatives are elected at-large, in citywide elections.

NOTICE OF GENERAL ELECTION

Notice is hereby given that a General Election will be held in the City of Clarkston on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, to elect a mayor and three (3) Council Members to the Clarkston City Council. The term of office is four (4) years, and the elected officials will be sworn in at the January 2022 meeting of the City Council.

Persons wishing to qualify for this election may file a Notice of Candidacy with the Municipal Election Superintendent at the Clarkston City Hall Annex, 1055 Rowland Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, beginning on Monday, August 16, 2021, to Wednesday, August 18, 2021, except during a daily lunchbreak from 12:00pm -1:00pm.

The qualifying fee for Mayor is $450 and the qualifying fee for council member is $360.

Qualifying Affidavit and Packet will be posted online Friday, August 13.  Affidavit can only be submitted during the qualifying period. Will need to bring ID to confirm identity and 12 month residency.

The qualifications to run for Clarkston office include:

— Candidate must be 18 years old,

— A Citizen of the United States

— A bona fide resident of the City of Clarkston for a continuous period of at least 12 months immediately prior to the date of the election

— Must have no debts outstanding against them in favor of the city, county or state.

— The candidate must be registered and qualified to vote in the municipal elections for the City of Clarkston and continue this qualification throughout their term of office.

— Candidate must continue to reside in the City of Clarkston during their period of service;

The election type for Council Members is plurality with the candidates for council members receiving the greatest, second greatest, and third greatest number of votes cast for council members shall be elected. You must declare the office you are running for when you qualify as a candidate.

Here is the qualifying information for the city of Stone Mountain:
MUNICIPAL ELECTION QUALIFYING PERIOD

AUGUST 17, 2021 – AUGUST 19, 2021

The City of Stone Mountain will hold a general municipal election for the office of Mayor and for three (3) Council Member seats on November 2, 2021 for four-year terms. All persons desiring to run for any of these offices shall qualify at City Hall located at 875 Main Street, Stone Mountain, GA 30083.  The qualifying period shall begin on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, and end on Thursday, August 19, 2021.  Qualifying will be conducted during the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. daily during the qualifying period. The qualifying fee for the office of Mayor will be $360.00. The qualifying fee for the office of Council Member will be $108.00. The qualifying fee must be paid during the qualifying period.

City residents wishing to qualify must do so during the qualifying period.  No person shall be eligible to serve as mayor or councilmember unless he or she shall have been a resident of this city for 12 months immediately proceeding the election or mayor or councilmembers; each person shall continue to reside within the city during said period of service and shall be registered and qualified to vote in municipal elections of this city.

Here is the qualifying information for elections in the city of Tucker:
CALL FOR SPECIAL ELECTION FOR THE CITY OF TUCKER

Notice is hereby given that, in accordance with O.C.G.A. 21-2-540, a special election shall be held in the City of Tucker to fill the vacancy in the office of City Council, District 1 Post 2, due to the death of William Rosenfeld. The special election will be held on November 2, 2021, in conjunction with the City of Tucker’s general municipal election.

Each candidate shall file a notice of candidacy in the Office of City Clerk of Tucker, 1975 Lakeside Pkwy Suite 350, Tucker GA 30084. The qualifying dates will be Monday, August 16, 2021, thru Thursday, August 19, 2021, during the hours 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday, August 20, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The qualifying fee shall be $420. Each candidate must meet the qualifications of the Charter and Code of the City of Tucker, as well as applicable State Laws.

MUNICIPAL ELECTION FOR THE CITY OF TUCKER

The date of the Municipal Election for the office of electing Mayor and Councilmember District 1 Post 1, Councilmember District 2 Post 1, Councilmember District 3 Post 1 is Tuesday, November 2, 2021.  The qualifying fee for the office of Mayor is $600, which is 3% of the total gross Mayoral salary of the preceding year and the qualifying fee for the office of City Council seat is $420, which is 3% of the total gross council member salary of the preceding year (O.C.G.A. 21-2-131(a)(1)(A)).  Each candidate shall file notice of candidacy in the office of the City Clerk of Tucker, 1975 Lakeside Pkwy Suite 350, Tucker, Georgia 30084. The qualifying dates will be Monday, August 16, 2021 through Thursday, August 19, 2021 during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday, August 20, 2021 will be from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.   (O.C.G.A. 21-2-132(d)(4)).  Each candidate must meet the qualifications of the Charter and Code of the City of Tucker, as well as applicable State Laws.
