One of Tucker’s founding councilmembers died over the weekend.
William “Bill” Rosenfeld, who was also the longtime owner of Rosenfeld Jewelry, died “suddenly overnight,” his Facebook page said Saturday. Soon after, the DeKalb city confirmed Rosenfeld’s death.
“Bill will be remembered for much more than his role as a City Councilman,” the city’s statement said. “By the time he ran for office in 2016, his legacy as a pillar of the Tucker community was well-ingrained — a leader in the DeKalb County Fire Department, a champion for the business community, a volunteer giving of his time and treasure and a man of great faith.”
Rosenfeld represented east Tucker since the city was chartered in 2016. He won reelection in 2019 by receiving 77% of the vote.
No further information was provided on Rosenfeld’s death. He is survived by his wife, Carmen, their two children and six grandchildren. A statement from his family was posted on his Facebook page Saturday.
“Our family would like to express our immense gratitude for the outpouring of love and kindness from his community and friends. We are humbled and comforted,” the post said. “He loved and was loved by so many — a man of great service.”
His family said they would hold a small, private funeral service. A larger memorial service will be planned once a city gathering is safe, the post said.
