Clarkston, GA — The city of Clarkston has announced assistance programs for mortgage, rent and utilities, as well as assistance for Clarkston businesses. The city has dedicated a portion of its American Rescue Plan funding to these programs, according to the city website.
Clarkston will receive, in total, just under $4 million from the American Rescue Plan.
The City Council has allocated up to $350,000 from its share of funding from the American Rescue Plan to provide for a temporary rent payment assistance grant program to Clarkston residents who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The maximum benefit an individual can receive is $3,0000 or three month’s rent.
Applicants who wish to submit an application must live in the city limits of Clarkston, must have and provide an existing, ongoing lease, a valid government ID, must provide proof of loss of incoming beginning March 2020 or after due to COVID-19, and submit various documentation listed on the application.
The City Council allocated up to $50,000 to provide temporary mortgage payment assistance to residents. The maximum benefit an individual can receive is $3,0000 or three months’ mortgage.
Applicants and the property must be in the corporate limits of Clarkston, must have a copy of a current and valid mortgage agreement or evidence of property ownership with mortgage obligation, must provide proof of loss of income due to COVID-19 and must submit various documentation listed on the application.
Up to $50,000 has also been allocated for a temporary utility payment assistance grant program to residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The maximum benefit an individual can receive is $1,000 or three months’ utilities.
The utility bill must be for a property within the corporate limits of Clarkston for water, sewer, electric and/or gas. Applicants must list all residents living in a unit, including dependents. They must provide a copy of a driver’s license or government-issued ID, a copy of the monthly utility bill and provide proof of loss of income due to COVID-19.
Businesses can also apply for assistance. The City Council allocated up to $150,000 to provide a temporary business assistance grant program to Clarkston businesses impacted by COVID-19. Assistance can be used to cover rent or utility expenses.
The maximum assistance provided to a business is $5,000 or three months of expenses.
Business owners must be a business within the city limits of Clarkston, must provide a government-issued ID and must provide documentation showing lost revenue and financial hardship.
