In the summer of 2022, DeKalb County’s North Tag Office may be moving 1.5 miles from its current location on Dresden Drive in Brookhaven to 3653 Clairmont Road in Chamblee.
The new location, the former site of Norman’s Electronics repair service, is part of a real estate exchange agreement with the owners of the property.
“At the end of the day, the tax commissioner will get a brand new facility in exchange for their old facility. They will have an expanded facility with better parking,” said Zach Williams, chief operating officer for DeKalb County. “The county is receiving twice the value of what it is getting rid of.”
The new location has an estimated 11,500 square feet compared to the nearly 600 square feet of space at the current location on Dresden Drive.
In a proposed amendment to the agreement, DeKalb County commissioners are considering extending the construction timeframe of the new building to no later than June 2022.
The North Tag Office is one of three locations in DeKalb County where residents may renew or purchase automobile license plates.
