DeKalb County Schedules Demolition of Blighted Property

Highlights of DeKalb blight eradication efforts include:
- Demolished and abated more than 600 properties since 2017.
- Performed a Comprehensive Property Condition Survey of Unincorporated DeKalb County completed in Sept. 2020. (Note: For the first time, the county was able to identify all properties subject to abatement or demolition in unincorporated areas of DeKalb.)
- Established a Comprehensive Commercial Corridor Inspection program to sweep commercial thoroughfares throughout unincorporated DeKalb County over a 5-year period.
- Performed best-in-class Hotel-Motel regulatory compliance sweeps.
The Demolition and Abatement Task Force was created in January 2017 to share information, coordinate enforcement efforts, and collaborate on initiatives to reduce blighted properties. Departmental representatives of Law, Planning and Sustainability, Community Development, Keep DeKalb Beautiful, Code Compliance, Sanitation, and GIS meet regularly.
