A mounting inventory of active, outstanding DeKalb County warrants led to a two-day task force by DeKalb County Sheriff Melody Maddox to locate and arrest suspects this week.
“Operation Safe Summer,” a multi-jurisdictional endeavor June 14-15 on some 400 warrants involved the DeKalb Sheriff’s Field Operations Criminal Process and Uniform Sections with special units from Henry County, Fulton County, and Newton County Sheriff’s Offices, and U.S. Marshals.
In the past two days, agency teams made 162 endeavors (attempts to arrest) and cleared 69 active warrants. In the process, 38 persons were arrested and transported to the DeKalb County Jail on 19 felony charges and 19 misdemeanor charges. Of those taken into custody, 25 were male and 13 were female ranging in age from 16 to 63. One arrestee was a juvenile. Deputies and U.S. Marshals encountered only one incident with no injuries while making the arrests.
Charges included Aggravated Assault, Vehicular Homicide, Battery, Possession of Firearms During Commission of a Felony, Possession of Cocaine with intent to Distribute, Possession of Firearms by Convicted Felon, and Battery Family Violence, among others.
“We are pleased with the outcome of this successful collaboration of sheriff’s offices and the U.S. Marshals,” says Sheriff Maddox. “Our colleagues from the metropolitan area agree that persons who commit crimes cross county lines everyday – impacting everyone’s safety.”
