Fire at DeKalb apartments displaces 30 residents

Thirty people were driven from their homes Tuesday when a fire broke out at a Stone Mountain-area apartment complex. Crews were called about 8:20 p.m. to the Park at Graystone Apartments on Weatherly Drive, . and found flames shooting from a second-story apartment. Fire damage was contained to just two units, although residents in all 16 will be displaced. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Thirty people were driven from their homes Tuesday when a fire broke out at a Stone Mountain-area apartment complex.

Crews were called about 8:20 p.m. to the Park at Graystone Apartments on Weatherly Drive and found flames shooting from a second-story apartment, according to DeKalb County fire. They worked quickly to evacuate 16 units and contain the blaze.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, spokesman Capt. Dion Bentley said. Fire damage was contained to just two units, although residents in all 16 will be displaced, according to the Red Cross.

The organization’s disaster volunteers were working with the displaced families to get temporary lodging and other emergency supplies.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
