City of Lithonia officials announced that residents can sign up for real-time public safety updates after Lithonia Police Department partnered with Nixle to implement a community notification system.
Lithonia officials said residents who sign up will receive real-time alerts for “localized emergency situations and relevant community advisories.”
All alerts will be targeted geographically—according to city officials—letting residents receive localized, relevant alerts from Lithonia Police Department.
Residents may register by texting their zip code to 888777 from a mobile phone or by visiting https://lithoniacity.org/NixleNotifications.aspx. Nixle alerts can be sent via text, email, web and on the Nixle Mobile App.
According to Lithonia officials, residents will receive a confirmation text to their mobile device after registering, and those who register may customize their alert settings by going to www.nixle.com and creating a user profile.
Lithonia officials called the service “secure, reliable, and easy to use for our organization.”
Nixle is partnered with National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, National Blue Alert Network, and Google for “unmatched reach and two-way information exchange,” according to a release.
The release states Nixle was founded in 2009 and provides a mass communications hub built “exclusively for government to provide secure, reliable, and relevant information to residents in real-time.”
