STONE MOUNTAIN, GA—Shawntez Edmondson has been appointed as the new City Clerk of the City of Stone Mountain. Edmondson was selected after a nationwide recruitment and assumed the position on Sept. 12, city officials said.

Edmondson most recently worked in College Park, Georgia, where he served as Assistant City Manager and Director of Economic Development. In addition, he managed the city’s efforts to coordinate the development of 330 acres worth $1.2 billion. He collaborated with department heads to operationalize the strategic plan by clustering the departments around the plan’s specific objectives.

Previously, Edmondson held positions with Delta Airlines, the Virginia Workforce Commission, and the United States Army. His work for Delta Airlines and the Virginia Employment Commission centered on workforce planning, staffing, and training. His career in the United States Army spanned more than two decades, domestically and abroad, during which he gained expertise in various fields, including training, operations, procurement, and personnel management.

Edmondson’s diverse responsibilities in the public, private, and military sectors have equipped him with the work ethic, organizational skills, and abilities necessary to serve the City of Stone Mountain effectively, city officials said.

Mayor Beverly Jones said she is confident that Edmondson will be a great asset to the city.

“Shawn brings a long history of varied duties, professional accomplishments, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in his long career,” said Jones. “He is a wonderful communicator, and in a small town where our staff wears many hats, he will be able to help in many key operational areas.”

Edmondson said he is honored to have been appointed for this position.

“I genuinely care about public service and have spent the last 25 years using my skills, experiences, and talents to improve organizations and support staff. Stone Mountain is a wonderful community, and I am eager to begin this new and exciting journey by providing excellent service to our employees and citizens,” Edmondson said.
