The Toney Valley Civic Association recently awarded five Toney Valley Scholars each with $1,000 Scholarships and one $200 Book Stipend, a press release said.
The TVCA Scholarship Committee, chaired by Dacia Preston awarded scholarships to the following proud 2021 Toney Valley high school graduates: Amaya Jarvis-Albany State Univ.; Briana Mcgruder-Huntingdon College; Brittany Mcgruder-Alabama State Univ.; Ashley Palmer-Savannah State Univ. and Marquez E.H. Petty- Georgia State Univ. Each student received a Certificate of Achievement and presented an oversize check.
2021 marked the Inaugural Awarding of 3 Andre Moses and Joyce Dupree White Legacy $1,000 Scholarships to Jarvis, Mcgruder and Mcgruder, in honor of the these long time DeKalb residents, who succumbed to Covid-19 in 2020, by their son, Andre R. White, daughter, Andrea Racquel White and longtime family friend, Ron Edenfield, President, Wayfield Foods, Inc. Darla Graves graciously accepted for Amaya Jarvis.
The 2 Toney Valley Civic Scholarships of $1,000 were awarded to Palmer and Petty. Additionally, because of his volunteer assistance to the association’s 2020 food and safety distributions, Petty was also granted the Janet Pierce Memorial Book Stipend in the amount of $200.00, honoring the late, longtime Toney Valley resident, NAACP activist and DeKalb Police South Precinct volunteer.
The 2021 $5,200.00 level of scholarship awards is the highest since the scholarship program begun 5 years ago under the administration of Barbara J. Mobley, TVCA President. For more information about Toney Valley Civic Association, view the website at www.toneyvalleyca.org.
